Ecosystem-Level Carbon Accounting at Scale CarbonSpace × Wild Asia
Turning Palm Oil Landscapes into Measured Carbon Sinks

The Mission: Proof for the Roots of Change

Wild Asia exists to prove that global supply chains can be a force for good. Their mission is to support smallholders and plantations in transitioning to regenerative, nature-positive practices that restore soil health and biodiversity.
The Challenge: Beyond Static Soil Samples
While Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) sampling is vital, it only provides intelligence at a single point in time and isn't always directly correlated to real-time productivity. To truly understand the impact of Wild Asia’s SPIRAL program, a more dynamic lens is required.
The Solution: Net Ecosystem Exchange (NEE)
Across 15,467 hectares, CarbonSpace monitored Net Ecosystem Exchange (NEE). Unlike "static" accounting, NEE captures the total "breath" of the landscape, integrating canopy flux, soil organic carbon, and deadwood into a single, verified signal.

The Conservation Correction: To ensure zero double-counting, we deduct carbon exported in Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB). This ensures that only the carbon retained onsite by the farmer's regenerative efforts is credited as a sink.

Impact: Real Data, Real Reductions

The 2020–2024 monitoring period proved that the SPIRAL program transforms oil palm landscapes into high-performing carbon sinks.

Key Performance Data (2024)
  • Total Net Sink: –490,014 $tCO_2$ total NEE.
  • Sequestration Density: –31.7 $tCO_2$ per hectare.
  • Continuous Improvement: 4.7% stronger sequestration vs. 2020.
Transformation of the Product Footprint (GWP)

By replacing generic averages with primary farmer performance data, the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) dropped significantly:

Strategic Value

  • For Producers: Direct validation of the SPIRAL program and the creative regenerative efforts of individual farmers.
  • For Brands: Audit-ready, ISO 14064-3 verified data for Scope 3 and SBTi FLAG compliance.
  • For Farmers: A system that finally measures and rewards the biological "up-time" of their land between soil sampling cycles.
